Masaki Oshima
Masaki Oshima was born in Nagoya, Japan, in 1944. He received a B.E.
degree in Electronics in 1968 and an M.E. degree in Electro
-communications in 1970, both from the University of Electro
-Communications, Tokyo, Japan. In 1982, he received a Dr. of Eng.
degree in Computer Science from the Osaka University, Osaka, Japan.
Since 1970, he has been with the Electrotechnical Laboratory, Ibaraki
, Japan, where he had conducted research on vision with emphasis on
object recognition using range data. He had been the head of Computer
Vision Section since 1985. Since 1992, he has been a Professor at the
Tokyo University of Mercantile Marine, Tokyo, Japan. In October 2003,
the Tokyo University of Mercantile Marine consolidated with Tokyo
University of Fisheries and has become a part of Tokyo University of
Marine Science and Technology. In 1979 he received the Honorable
Mention for the Pattern Recognition Society Award. His research
interests include computer vision, robotics, and artificial intelligence.
Dr. Oshima is a member of the Institute of Electronics, Information
and Communication Engineers, the Information Processing Sosiety of
Japan, the Robotics Society of Japan, the Japanese Society for
Artificial Intelligence, the Marine Engineering Society in Japan,
the Japan Institute of Navigation, and the Law and Computers
Association of Japan.
